Most of the translator associations in FIT publish online directories of their members. The brochure below — "Getting It Right" — is full of advice and tips to help you get the translation you need.Available in English, French, German, Italian, Dutch et Czech.

Is translation a commodity?
No, a translation is an intellectual product with the content specifically tailored to its use. The booklet Translation – buying a non-commodity is aimed at buyers of translations and offers some basics to consider when contracting a translation to make sure the work meets your needs. The Czech version is ready and the French version will be available shortly.
Welcome
FIT is an international federation of associations of translators, interpreters and terminologists gathering more than 100 associations from all over the world. Its purpose is to promote professionalism in the disciplines it represents. FIT is also concerned with the conditions of professional practice in various countries and strives to defend translators' rights in particular and freedom of expression in general. FIT maintains operational relations with UNESCO.
International Translation Day
The theme for the forthcoming International Translation Day - 30 September 2010 - was proposed by UTR (Russia) and will be Translation Quality for a Variety of Voices. (ITD Press Release)

- UNESCO releases new publication on linguistic diversity in the InternetUNESCO, together with FUNREDES and the Union Latine, has launched Twelve years of measuring linguistic diversity in the Internet: balance and perspectives. Written by Daniel Pimienta, Daniel Prado and Alvaro Blanco, this publication is an update to the previous UNESCO study on this subject that was issued for the World Summit on the Information Society in 2005.
- EULITAThe establishment of an association of legal translators and interpreters, EULITA, took place during a congress in Antwerp in November 2009. Information about the procedure for applying for membership in EULITA, the application form, and information about membership fees are now available on the EULITA website.
- Scholarships for translators in trainingThe Romanian Cultural Institute every year offers two types of scholarships for translators of Romanian literature.
The aim of the scholarship programme is to train a new generation of translators of Romanian. The selected candidates have the opportunity to spend a period of time in Romania in order to establish direct contact with the Romanian literary and cultural milieu. - DGT Study and Conference - Size of the language industry in the EUIn the light of the rapid growth of the language industry, the European Union’s Directorate-General of Translation undertook a survey covering translation, interpreting, software localisation, website globalisation, translation technology and related fields. Includes country fact sheets. This conference is also webstreamed.
- Accurate translation is vital
- EuroSign Interpreter ProjectCCE is delighted to announce a major grant for the EuroSign Interpreter Project, awarded by the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency under its Lifelong Learning Programme. The project, to run for two years, will develop and pilot materials to train people who are bilingual between two different sign languages as interpreters, a qualification yet to exist in Europe.

- Next FIT Congress date confirmedFIT has set the date for its next statutory congress in San Francisco as 30-31 July 2011, with the open congress to be held on 1-4 August 2011.
